Bicyclists are noticing something different about their morning commute lately. Homemade bicycle lanes are appearing in streets previously dominated by vehicles.

No thanks to the parent cities but bicycle activists themselves. Armed with white spray paint, stencils and clad in dark clothes. Cyclists take to the streets at night to reclaim more of our roads by marking off bicycle lanes in places they haven’t yet existed.

Guerrilla Bicycle Lanes are less confrontational than Critical Mass type movements, which tend to lead to pissing contests between motorists and bicyclists. The new bike lanes only last a day or two before the city “fixes them” but the statement is made… cycling as a commute option is becoming more and more popular so cyclists want more of the road.
